Plinacro and FGSZ signed the joint statement on increasing the capacity of gas interconnection between Croatia and Hungary

2026. 07. 30.

The capacity increase will provide a more reliable gas supply towards Hungary and wider region as well as an access to additional gas sources from Croatia, including the LNG terminal on the island of Krk. The joint statement represents an important step towards greater energy connectivity, security of supply, and resilience of energy systems in the region.

The gas transmission system operators of Croatia and Hungary, Plinacro and FGSZ Ltd., signed today a joint statement on aiming to increase the capacity of Drávaszerdahely/Donji Miholjac interconnection point in the direction from Croatia to Hungary.

The upgrade of the gas pipeline network in Croatia will enable the transmission of larger gas volumes between the two countries and further strengthen the energy connectivity of both states. This will enhance the security of supply, the resilience of energy systems, and the stability of the regional energy system.

The President of the Board of Plinacro Ivica Arar pointed out: “This joint statement confirms the long-standing successful cooperation between FGSZ and Plinacro. I am particularly pleased to emphasize that the construction of the Bosiljevo-Sisak and Kozarac-Sisak main gas pipelines will enable an increase in capacity and availability of gas from Croatia, which will further strengthen the stability of supply to countries in the region connected via transmission systems.”

The Chairman-CEO of FGSZ Szabolcs I. Ferencz emphasized: „FGSZ highly welcomes today’s agreement, which will double the currently available technical capacity from the Croatian direction in the near future. We greatly appreciate Plinacro's constructive approach and look forward to strenghten diversification and the security of supply for Hungary and the wider region by further development of the  LNG corridor from Croatia to the landlocked countries.“

The joint statement also confirms the coordinated cooperation between the two companies in carrying out all necessary technical, regulatory, and operational activities to offer new capacities to the market participants in a timely manner, in accordance with European legislation and agreements between the operators.

Upon the completion of the Bosiljevo - Sisak and Kozarac – Sisak gas pipelines, the capacity of the Drávaszerdahely/Donji Miholjac interconnection point will be doubled, from the current 200,000 Sm3/h to 400.000 Sm3/h, starting from 31 December 2026. Market participants will be informed about the details of access to these capacities in due course.
